Buying/ Selling textbooks on campus and international textbooks.?

Posted by admin on December 24th, 2008

Hello,
I’m planning on selling my used textbooks next year to new incoming students to that class, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me from experience whether or not books with highlights and notes in them sell for less, or if the students actually like used textbooks with notes written in the margins. What about when selling to the used book stores?
Also, a question about international books:
I’m a freshman in college, and and I just realized there were such things as “international” textbooks sold online. I didn’t buy it first semester despite their cheaper prices, because I did not trust them. I’m wondering how those international versions differ from the actual print. What are some cons for purchasing the international version instead of the real version? And has anyone tried selling the international books after use? Are students still interested in buying a used “fake” version? Thank you.

Hi, I’m also thinking about selling my books next year. People will still buy them with highlightings, but not for very much. Also, in my experience, everyone I knew bought their books new, so you need to really advertise.
I bought one of those international textbooks in my first year. I’m a psychology student and the recommended textbook for one of my modules was £70 but I managed to buy a version that was to be sold in India off ebay for £25 including p+p. The book is exactly the same, including page numbers etc. The ONLY difference was that it was in black and white instead of colour, it didn’t come with the cd of resources (which no one uses anyway!) and it had a different front cover. I still use that book now, I’m so glad I didn’t pay the £70 advertised in my book store!!

I'm selling some old textbooks on ebay, what is common for combined shipping? Do I only charge for 1 book?

I let ebay calculate the shipping costs, is that the right thing to do? I have a potential buyer saying it is too much.

weigh the books and look up the "media mail rate" at www.usps.com - cheapest rate for books

Good luck finding books
