Advice on buying a laptop?
Uncategorized August 25th, 20081. Main Purpose = Use the computer to download nursing textbooks & then sync to a PalmPilot (need nursing textbooks on Palm to use while working in a hospital).
2. Also would like to burn CDs
3. If possible would like to watch DVD's on laptop
What should I be looking for? I'm comparing laptops that are on sale (I'm on a student budget). I need something reliable for the next 2 years, and would also like to buy it where I can purchase a warranty so I can take it back if I have any problems.
Dell. Most any line. XPS is tops, Inspirion bottom, Studio in between.
I have the Inspirion 1525 which I can highly recommend.
But don't buy from anyone but Dell direct as warranty gets fuddled. Especially dont buy from Best Buy http://www.lockergnome.com/blade/2008/03/11/buying-a-dell-at-best-buy-reader-wants-to-know-who-provides-technical-support/

Go with Dell, they have great warranty and cheap good laptops, you can get a nice one for what you need for about $400.
Good luck

I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 from best buy. It's under the $1000 mark and it has a 160 GB hard drive. I use mine mainly for storing music. It's fast so it syncs my ipod quickly. It burns CDs and DVDs, and plays them also, so this would be a good student laptop (it's my first laptop!) and best buy offered to sell me a warranty when I bought it. I said no, though, so I don't know how long it lasts, but it's built well and it would be hard to break. Hope this helps!

I buy all my computers from ebay and have never had any trouble as long as you look around and check out everything first you should be fine. With the requirements you need you could get a laptop that has all that for around $250 -$300 it depends on how fast you want it and what software and add ons you need. Good Luck
